Holy Moley

That was an adventure just trying to log in. Turns out I have four different entries in my password manager and two of them work together. Some consolidation needs to happen there. Then, the super duper secret code that was sent to my phone was in the text message spam folder. There’s such a place? On my phone there seems to be now. I wonder who else is stuck in there. I’ll look later.

We bought something two weeks ago. I was up at our cabin then my husband caught up with me later that day. The next day he asked if I would be interested in driving into town to look at some campers at the dealership. This would be the dealership that we were stalking for two years. We’d drive by, turn around, drive by again, then go back to the cabin and look up their website.

This time he pulled in.

We wandered around and the air had an smell to it like someone was burning cornstalks off in the distance but it was clear, sunny and darn right hot. The first one we looked at was a cute little aqua and white vintage-look teardrop shape. So cute. We opened the door and the smell of glue almost pushed me back out into the lot. It was all wood veneer on the inside. Now, we live in two houses that are pretty much all wood. Our main home is a full log home while our cabin is a vinyl sided wood panel constructed house from way back. One of the previous owners wrapped it to add insulation. Otherwise, the walls were only 2″ thick and in northern Michigan that’s either sweltering or freezing. Still is but we aren’t there all year.

Out of that one and into some little black and white versions. After going in and out of four or five we took the next big step – go see people. Real people. The kind of people who sell things. They weren’t like car salespeople or furniture salespeople. They were actually rather friendly, not pushy, and full of information and numbers.

We took the numbers back to the cabin. Looked them over. Spousal Unit had to go home because he’s not retired yet and someone has to make the money for these predicaments we get ourselves into. A couple days later he calls and asked if I wanted to do it. Sure I said. Go put a deposit on it he says. OK. I do that. They fill out the loan paperwork so that I can also get in touch with my insurance guy. She asks for my income and what our mortgage payment is.

Here comes the confession.

I would be $300 short each month just trying to pay our mortgage and the electric bill. We don’t have any other utilities here except my Verizon bill and me being the geeky tech nerd that I am have all of it and won’t settle for less. We didn’t even add in my car payment.

So, I call Spousal Unit to request his information to be my co-applicant. Everything goes through just fine and a loan is created with a northern Michigan credit union, insurance policy is set up and I’m back at the cabin in the wildfire smoke that came through with a vengeance. The next day our power goes out which adds even more fun. In the afternoon he calls and asks how we get the trailer and he’s assuming that I am on the road already heading south since I told him I was planning on it. You know, you have to come up to sign all those lines on those papers too. He says I better turn around and head back up.

I never left. LOL

So two days later he returns. We sign a bunch of papers and we own a 2026 Grand Design Transcend One 151RB. Let the adventure begin. I grew up in Starcraft and Venture pop-ups. They all have their quirks, issues, and all that but, we get to go someplace and not have to stay in hotels or motels. I’m not a hotel/motel person.

I’ll take my knitting with me so don’t fear.
